Wake up Animal Kingdom - here we come!!

There is SO much to see at Disney I find the biggest challenge is choosing WHAT to see.  Ask anyone and their opinion s differ widely!  My kiddos have a thing for Animals so we thought this would be a hit.

Clearly the camera wasn't awake yet.  We tried so hard to be quiet in our little kitchen area to not wake up the McCulloughs - But they were up and excited to see us off  - they were do for a relaxing day at the pool
We got to the park 5 minutes before it opened (success!)  as soon as we got in the kids couldn't stop looking at all the awesomeness and animals everywhere!  Yeah!  Great choice.
lots of exploring as we head to our first Fast pass ride
Lots of fishy fishy's
First ride was the Kilamjaro Safari - REAL safari Real animals REAL environments.  One thing I LOVE about Disney is they really do it - all out.  The level of care and detail they put into each animals habitat was truly amazing.  Each turn of the Safari lead to a very different environment.
Safari animals??
Hey there Mr. Gorilla!
Rhino in action (as active as they get!)
Nice horns buddy!
Even if it was his backside, I had to catch a photo
A little photo posing in front of the tree of life - which isn't actually alive
Took this one ourselves, cant you tell??

We had a little time in between the Safari fast pass and Bugs life fast pass so we opted to wait for the Mickey and Minnie adventure -
While waiting in line, have to do a shout out to Kallen and Nolan for sharing their shoes with Shane - these are WAY better than winter boots buddy!
we honestly had no idea what we were waiting for - turns out it was a photo with Minnie and Mickey!!  Sweet!  This is my favorite
Than the offered to catch us all!

The kiddos weren't really big on meeting the characters which was just fine with us.  More rides!!
Which, Bugs life - 4D - Meaning they squirt stuff at you - SCARY for Drew and Shane!  Drew actually took his glasses off and hid behind the seats.  At one point spiders descended from the ceiling - YIKES!
This one was more their speed.  Although it took SEVERAL rides for Drew to trust us again.
He said no way to the Dino right (in hind sight, not a bad call - it was rather dark and kinda scary, with the fast pass, Chris and i were able to split up, and Chris was able to ride again taking up to 2 more passengers - at the end of the Dino ride Nick was the only one to volunteer - shane was NOT interested)  Nick and I were also able to do to Expedition Everst which was WAY cool, goes backwards too - VERY well done Disney!

Around 3 the crowds were really there and it was hot - so we left and came back to the pool with our biddies!
Whoot!! Whoot!
Love swimming kiddos!
Wouldn't imagine that Vacation Mom really has coffee in those mugs - that would be silly
We went back for dinner reservations we had made at the Yak and Yeti - looking back, not terrible necessary.  The food was just fine, but we would have been just fine at the condo too.  The lines were still rather long and unless you had a fast pass it really wasn't worth it.  Love the Fast Pass system BTW - Go Disney!

Christmas the adventure begins!

The lead up to Christmas - the enjoyment the jolly - all the wonderfulness.  My folks snagged the boys for a night of game playing and movie watching.  Love those cozy happy faces!
A sweet short video or Drew signing -

Meanwhile Chris and I enjoyed a body pump class together and went to the library in search of car ride entertainment - can I say we didn't even watch these.  The conversation was WAY better (podcasts too)
Dinner was pretty slim pickings - I want to remember that is was POURING RAIN on December 23 - POURING!
This may look a little brighter.  (not much)  Christmas Eve morning we found an assisted living center near our home thought would like a little Christmas cheer.
The boys had some cookies, snow flakes, and angels to give to the residents.  This was our first time visiting and meeting the residents.  It was sweet to see how the boys reacted and the residents as well.  Hoping to establish a relationship with them as the boys can read to them or just spend some time.
After that we had our neighborhoods annual Luminaries assembly and distribution.  She hosted it at 1pm and it literally stopped raining at 1:10 pm - the show must go on!  Lots of college kiddos home from school - sweet to take care of the little guys that are so excited to be part of the distribution process.
Off to Christmas even service in short sleeves!!  My father declared it as wet best Christmas eve service ever - 29 minutes and the kids were in the pagent - we just didn't know that until we got there!  No rehearsal!
Simple Christmas eve dinner of mussels cooked by Rockstar Chris.
The boys couldn't wait to open their Christmas eve gift.
And put them on in time for a very special guest  - right after his deliveries in Germany!!  After he left Nick could see rudolph many times in the night sky -  Night night nick!
When folks ask me if my kiddos were excited - well here is the answer - I think so...  Honestly all the 'butt shots' are what is cracking me up.  Nick was surely more excited about our companion announcement
And some C&H Fire Sprinkler shirts - Fire Turns us on!
It was really chaos after that.  Chris managed to make some breakfast while we ran around realizing what we may have forgotten and the kids were just as crazy.  My folks snagged pauli and helped get us out the door (if that is possible)  Honestly that morning I thought we could be a fascinating study in inefficiency -

Here we go!!  in the car at 10:15 and we DID NOT STOP until we got off the highway in Woodbridge VA - (I could have used the potty 2 hours into our trip, but nothing was going to stop us - Farrah drove all the way to us in the summer NO STOPS!)  The boys watched movies and we made it!!
it was a VERY rainy day (perfect for driving) minimal traffic
Tate and Macy still didn't know we were joining them so that is what makes this video so special.

This is the video from Farrah's angle - Looking back I almost cringe at mentioning princesses to Macy as she really didn't want to have anything to do with princesses - She would have loved to see Rai from the new star wars movie, but Bell from Beauty and the beast or cinderella - no thank you.  Yes our kind of girl!

Love love love Tates response when Nick asks him if he can come to Disney with them - ah  - to have forever friends - true treasure!
Brian and Farrah had prepared an amazing Christmas Dinner spread.  Not only were we planning to travel with them for the next week, but we got to share Christmas dinner together!  The roast was amazing, the garlic, the leeks, the POTATOES - Brian is an amazing cook and we are so grateful he made the time to totally indulge us all.  We even had poppers as part of a British tradition that Brian's family had practiced for years.  who would be the last one to wear the crown??
Maybe that is enough excitement for one day??  Or maybe not.  After dinner, Chris and I packed up Shane and Drew hitting the road for 2 more hours - crazy right?  I had wanted to see Megan as her family recently moved to Richmond VA - knowing that additional 2 hour drive is not always in the cards, I knew that now was the time - Plus she was headed to London over New Years for family wedding and epic trip with her hubby, so seeing her on the way back wasn't an option.  On the drive to the McCulloughs chris actually mentioned it - never thinking I would take him up on it and than Megan would welcome us on Christmas night - Well guess what, she did - with open arms!!  We rolled in at 10 with a sleeping Drew and an away Shane who was thrilled for some Kallen time.  We stayed up for a few more hours relishing in they new home and new life in Richmond - Chesterfield actually.  I love knowing where your heart and family are now Megan.

As much as you may try to choreograph a 3/4 year old reunion - you just cant.  We woke Drew up at 6:15 and he was still rather groggy, but initially excited to give Nolan a huge hug and surprise him.....  Apparently he needed some coffee.

In the moment I never want to stop the conversation and take a photo -yet looking back I OFTEN wish I had more pictures -
We were literally getting in the car to head to a rest stop and link up with the McCulloughs (and Nick)  We snapped a bleary eyed morning shot.
Megan THANK YOU for welcoming us totally last minute - having beers until late and waking up early for a yummy breakfast.  We felt so very loved and thankful to have the moments together.  That day she was packing up and headed to the outer banks with her family!! and next onto London

THANK YOU also for Kallen's shoes - After 2 hours in the car from CT I realizes shane put on his winter boats for the ride - not the walking shoes I had hoped for in Florida - Thankfully we have friends that are awesome WITH shoes that fit!

No texting needed - we pulled into the rest stop RIGHT BEHIND the McCulloughs - swapped some passengers - (Macy and Farrah joined us while Chris went with Brian)  The McCulloughs ROCKED the entire drive from VA to FL - AMAZING!
VERY brief stop at South of the Border
Farrah and I are headed to the same place - just dressed VERY differently!
Last minute staples for the Condo - this was our 2nd and final stop, everyone was allowed to grab something they wanted.  The kids all grabbed a bag os chips (THRILLED might I add)  I had to grab the drinks =)!
14 hours in the car and we arrived right before 9.  The kids stripped off and headed to the pool!  PERFECT - night swimming!  Just what they needed to make these photos possible.
Snooze away sweet munchkins
The adventure has only just begun
I remember the day that Farrah proposed this vacation idea - we were new into life of the small business owners - Chris said absolutely not - I asked our financial adviser - he said YES - do it, you don't get this opportunity often, the kids will grow.
So save!
how?  Any payments we take from the business are necessary ones, like food, mortgage, etc.
I socked away every penny I made from R+F for the last 4 months and did it!
FELT AWESOME to make that transfer.
Being with our friends made ALL THE DIFFERENCE!  Friends like this truly ENRICH everything about life - wether its sharing a crummy bag of chips, listening to a pod cast or exploring disney - ok. the blog must go on!  I just love living the moments!

C and H corporate Christmas party

18 Months in the books for C&H Fire Sprinkler - celebrated at Maximia
Chris came with the financial report and we are on track - on track to what you may ask, well, on track to having this business being able to support our family of fine as well as my folks and live the lifestyle we choose without a commute, late hours and general job dissatisfaction.
Sure there are always growing pains - but the big picture is exactly why we are here and why we made this life decision.  Thanks to those wonderful partners - I am thankful to every day I get to hear Chris talk about the projects, the plans and the connections he is learning and making.

Nt sure I ever really thought we would be back here like this - honestly I always had a thought I could work for C&H, but working with my father was never a good option for us -
amazing the plans that lay before you that you may not realize.
Being back here and being part of all this unfolding makes me truly realize it wasn't my plan - someone else truly has a plan.
You just have to be open to it.

The irony of it all, as I type this, I am sitting in my folks kitchen - my kitchen really, meaning i grew up here years ago.  but sitting here I still feel what life was like 20 years ago.  I am hear making sure the cats know someone still loves them while my folks are enjoying life in Florida.
 Symbiotic relationship

Pre christmas celebration with the Leadbetters!!

The Leadbetters were due to spend Christmas in Texas with Liz and Tam, we have plans too - so when all kinds of fun things started falling on one weekend we thought it would be wonderful to have the Leadbetters come out!
They said yes!

Friday night was the Champagne walk in Downtown Collinsville - we snagged a last minute babysitter and headed out.  Beautiful night and LOTS of folks.  Glad we were able to find some champagne too =)!  Maybe next year we will find the snow flakes.

Saturday morning we went exploring - first stop was Ski Sundown.  Would love to snap another photo like this a few months from now.

Cleary not skiing yet - but we can dream right?
Love this photo of the 2 boys grading Grandpa's hand
Some carriage riding and caroling through the street of Collinsville.  We grabbed some yummy sandwiches at Lasalle market and headed to a rather odd Christmas play in the town hall.

Chris and I believe THIS to be the perfect job for Wyland!
We popped in just to see Santa and when there wasn't a line for photos we figured the Jolly man needed a big family shot.  This photo took 2 seconds and I absolutely ADORE it.  She posted it on her website for us.  I cannot believe it captured all of us so well, you can hardly see the bearded man in the center!
One more good reason to get us all together - kick off!
It was one of the best games in Years - sadly we didn't get to see it.  Chris and I had a company Christmas Party with Perfectly Plumb.  It was a wonderful evening - it makes me laugh as Chris was that guy checking his phone for updates and getting texts from his dad.  I was so bummed we had to miss the game - maybe if we were watching that last drive would have turned out differently - next year Army!!

Thank you so much to the Leadbetter for making it such a wonderful weekend.  I love how well and easily you plug into our lives.  Playing with the kiddos, helping out and just being a part of our lives.  We all treasure the time we get to spend with you both.

Chilly morning working by the tree with this sweet pouch who just wants to be in the same room as I

Christmas decoration time?!

Its like 70 out - CRAZY - but made it VERY easy to put up the lights!
Lunch on the front porch!
After Church on sunday we went to our land trust in Canton in search of the perfect tree.
there were lots to choose from of ALL shapes and sizes - this one was the winner!
The boys watching the cut down process
That night my folks came over and I was thankful for their help or attention with the tree.  Being such a beautiful day, I didn't want to call the boys in from playing football to their chorus of wines as to when they didn't want to help.  Its supposed to be enjoyable and if that means enjoying it with a glass of wine with my mom - than perfect.  We will have to schedule THAT next time
The outdoor creation
My favorite part
Sunday right before Church I looked at everyone and said, hey, you all look pretty darn good - no one matched, no one planned, we just sat on our porch and took the Christmas card photo -
First one isn't ALWAYS the best
Came self timer propped on a stool - even Pauli is looking!!  Christmas cards DONE!

night out

Simple night out to a Christmas craft showing in Simsbury - loved how simply Chris and I could win my folks.
Ran into a corner SHS graduate - also my former teacher and am bummer I don't have the photo with him.  Recognized him instantly!
Chris and I extended our evening just a bit at First and Last
