Golfer/swimmer summer fun

Monday morning and his first day at Blue Fox Golf camp with Charlie - Nick and Charlie have been attending camp together since they were 4 and I was flying home from Germany (first it was farm camp and than Flamig Farm camp - now they are moving up!)

Anyone shocked that they loved it.
It was the HOTTEST week of the summer so far and every time we went to pick them up at 3 they were hoping we would take them on another round of golf.  Seriously.
Well on Tuesday they had their swim championships.
4 teams from the summer time competed.
Nick was on the Canton Duskie Dolphins and Charlie was on Avon's team.
Although they swam a meet against each other, they never literally swam against each other - until the final meet - and we weren't even expecting it until they climbed up on the starting blocks - both about to swim the 25 leg in their medley relay.

Nick got to swim the 25 free on the last meet and was thrilled with his time - so he got to swim at Championships.
Not bad buddy!
the next day a few of us hit the beach while Nick was golfing.  Look at this little guy making having a cast not so bad....
Not sure what Shane is looking for.
Keep them running!
Thanks Meg and kelly for such a great day - running at the beach translates into sleeping on the grass
Yup, he is DOG tired.
You would think this guy was too....nope, he was winning tournaments, longest drive - he soaked in every last wonderful golfing moment asking for more each time.

In transit

We are so lucky the Leadbetters love CT and drive through often enough that we can steal them for a road bump or two.  They were headed back from helping Liz and Tam in Saranac Lake and were able to bunk in with us for 2 nights!  Remember I said our other bathroom was under construction right??   So thankful that they were willing to be a helpful party and not hindered by the missing bathroom!

Saturday night we went to Collinsville to canoe and were surprised to find out they were having a festival.  Our night just got a bit longer....

Sunday they stole the kiddos for a little mini put while Chris and I tried to attack the bathroom.

We finally threw in the towel Sunday afternoon and headed to my folks for dinner.  See Barbara is even willing to sit at the kids table for dinner!!
Here we are on Monday morning before they took off.  I managed to snap a quick photo.  Thanks so much for your time, your patience, your help and your kindness.  We would love to have you ANY time.  Thank you for making the time.

Solar City

We did it - We went solar - Its something we wanted to do while living in Texas - heck, it was a company we wanted to develop while living in Texas (Solar shines that when places in parallel will transfer the electricity to your home - great idea right?  Well, its almost there...)
So when we moved out here, I noticed a few houses with solar.  Than I was walking in Home Depot when they asked if I wanted a free solar consultation -
Yes Please.
Nicole McCue came out a few months ago and our house was perfect for Solar as long as you don't mind the panels positioned in the front - Nope - not at all.

They had many different contract options - no money down and instant savings on the electrical bill made it a no brainer for us.
We talked about being the installation crew - SO THANKFUL those are beers we are holding and not hammers.
Here they are - Solar City - I cannot say enough wonderful things about the company, Nicole McCue our sales rep was wonderful and John who lead the installation crew (that completed our installation in 4 hours!!) was amazing.
4 hours from start to finish.
They look BEAUTIFUL.  Clean energy.

Another Story about Drew

See this guy - He is one happy camper - We just had the greatest day at the pool.  Friends were there - it was HOT, we were all swimming and mom even splurged for McDs ice cream afterwards (BEFORE DINNER!)
And than about 8pm they are jumping off the beds.  Normal rough housing in my opinion.  I have honestly gotten tired of yelling at them for it.  We HATE yelling - but its necessary most times with 3 boys....  Here is why.
There is crying (yes, a different kind crying)  I hear Chris go in.  He non chantly says, I think Drew just broke his arm.  (he is holding Drew)  I am in shock and dis belief mostly because we just spent the most amazing day at the pool and now THAT will be out the door - selfish for me and the other boys.
Now Nick is at my side crying.  What?  U pushed him off?  He asked you too?
O.k. Chris is o.k. and he is much better at handling stress.
I call my folks (another story there)
He heads to the clinic in canton.
I have a heart to heart with the boys on how you only get ONE BODY!  How many times do I ask you NOT to jump, on, of, over the bed, couch etc...?!?!
Folks come over and plan to take me to meet up with Chris (who just called me asking for Drew's birthday - yes, he reminded me to mention that - seriously, we weren't rattled at all!)

I link up with Chris - The clinic is called Canton Medical - which is ironically the FIRST building that C&H fire sprinkler did when we arrived.  This was Chris's FIRST project to be a part of.  (Yes, my father was excited to walk through!)  My mom was able to stay home with the boys.

Here he is getting x-rays.  Prognosis at Canton Med - We need to move on the Children's Hospital.  They don't have the appropriate pain meds etc to treat his fracture and possible dislocation.
Drew was a TROOPER.  Yes it hurt and yes he cried.  But he only cried when it hurt.  He listened to the Doctors and KNEW it was serious.  he didn't like to look at his arm and actually requested that we hide it with his blanket (that he calls buddy)
Arm is splinted on onto the hospital
Check in around 10;20pm - waiting room
His Arm hurt - but boy was he tired.
Once he was finally admitted, they put him under Katamean to try to fix the break and dislocation.
At 12:30 - the Dr comes to us and says - she cannot fix the break and dislocation.  He will need surgery.
What?  See the swollen arm in all the wrong places.
Apparently he broke the Ulnar and dislocated the Radius.  Trying to put the radius back only pushed the ulnar back.  Poor guy.....
So they splinted it again and proceed us into a room for the night.  Chris went home to the boys and my mom while I stayed with this guy.  It was 3am before we were finally in a room.
Yes, rounds start again around 6  - no snoozing.  Drew woke up fidgeting and the most annoying this was the sensor on his toe.  He HAD to get it off.  They IV was next.  I was desperately trying to turn the TV on to SOMETHING (but of course it won't work - literally unplugged.....)
I saw SO many different nurses, Doctors, Staff, schedulers during that time I could hardly keep it straight.  We went from having surgery after 6pm that night (BUMMER!)  to having surgery in 20 minutes.
I had just talked to Chris saying, to bring the boys in to say 'hi' later today to saying -
PLEASE COME HERE NOW they are putting him under.
In a flurry of signing paper work and saying yes to Anastasia and pretending to truly understand anything and everything that was going on, Drew bravely went back with a TEAM of Doctors while I sat by myself putting all my faith in powers above and beyond my control.

I was in the waiting room when Chris arrived equally as frazzled and Dr. Lee greet us saying all went well.  Here is Drew's arm.
Before - broken and dislocated - (the radius  - smaller bone  - is supposed to be directed at the elbow -- see in the before where it is higher?  The after shows the PIN through the Ulnar and the Radius now in place.  Sent this photo right to my sis as I know she is good at this stuff.

Now to wake up the patient.

Do we really have to wake him.  He finally looks so peaceful....  The cast color - BTW - he wanted black - I asked them to say they were out of black - seriously, its summer folks and although Drew may not be swimming - we would be at the pool - or outside.!
Starting to wake up (next to MONSTER truck - a gift from the hospital)
The true wake up came with an orange popsicle.

we came home from the hospital a bit discombobulated and took a day to recover.  Thursday night was the open air Canton Concert and here was Drew getting his cast signed by sweet Grace.

Friday morning at swim team practice (for Nick of course)  Thanks to a cast protector from kelly our neighbors.  It was 90 that day.
Yes, its his right arm - yes he is a righty.  Yes, he CANNOT go in the pool.  The FUNNIEST thing about this all is watching him pull up his pants left handed.  I giggle almost every time.  Because he DOESN'T complain at all.  it just takes longer.  Everything takes longer - but he does it - lefty....
No problem at all.

Drew - you are a trooper.
Thank you all for the FB love and support as the distraction was needed and appreciated.   WE have 4 weeks in a cast - its truly amazing how their body can heal.  Its IMPOSSIBLE to slow him down.  mini put is a HUGE favorite activity and he really plays no different.  Thanks to my folks for grabbing him every so often to just chill.  Screen times in the summer are so tough because they should be outside.....  But Drew is logging in some leapster time and loving it.

Just when you thought things were crazy enough.

I love Diane

Having her and her family in CT as such a blessing - such a blessing.  Whenever life was hectic, whenever we needed to get back to what really mattered - time with the Wisneskis's is what grounded us.  ITs Sunday and somehow this is their final day in CT - She lovingly invited us to join her family in North Hampton for a swim going away party.

The Wisneski Family is HUGE - Wayne has 3 siblings - each have 3 or 4 kids - they are all there and part of this wonderful family.  The cousins all hang out together whether they are in college or preschool.  The kids literally played in the pool for hours.  I was starting to worry about Shane just being exhausted.  WE were so thankful to be included in this wonderful day - bitter sweet as it was.
Look at these 2 peeing behind a tree....
It was so hard to leave, fireworks, hugs, good friends.  The next morning she headed to Farrah's house in VA - what an awesome leap - Diane would than walk into the house that Wayne bought without her even seeing it.  I am so thankful they are only 6 hours away (and 6 minutes from the Leadbetters!)  Thank you Diane for this year together, I can say I wish we could have seen you more - but I am truly thankful for all the weekend we did get to spend with you and MORE TO COME.

Love you,

Roaring Brook with Cousins and trying life a little less chemical

My sis came up for a week and my mom was able to enroll Shane, Riley, Drew, and Maddy in Roaring Brook nature camp.  She volunteers there as her life is truly made more colorful surrounded by some really unique folks.  She always comes home with great stories and feeling enriched.  Sweet to pass that along to the kiddos as they love all things creepy, crawly, and animal like.  Especially the time together.

My sis and I were able to orchestrate a carpool too.

here were the glorious sounds I got to hear I we drove home one day.
We spent the week together co-ordinating, getting together, swapping life stuff.  WE always leave with just a bit more knowledge on stuff.  Farrah inspired us this time with a few ideas.

Dyer balls - sure easy and rather relaxing to make - careful, the balls jump out of your hands!

Mayo - yum and healthier

Deodorant - something that works for me - and what I plan to use for the boys once they are of age - you can buy the applicators on amazon too!

We took an afternoon and joined Jill B down at Saybrooke at the beach.
a little cuddle time with the Drew man.
Mia won the prize for the dirtiest.
It started to rain and we had to walk back - gear and all.  Here they are all dry and watching one of Stosh's movies while we order some yummy fried food  - for the pregnant lady of course! Gotta feed those twins!
This photo just looks like summer!
This photo just looks crazy!
Monkey see, monkey do!
What's dinner without dessert?!?
Nick had a swim meet in Avon one night, so we all went - of scouser the kiddos loved watching nick....  yeah right,  I LOVED taking this photo of Goomba,  can you just hear the chatter?  Can you see the smoke coming out of Goomba's ears?  They choose Skittles - sweet!
I love getting time with my nieces - They are so sweet and different to me when their parents aren't around.  It was a crazy week and with the bathroom still under construction, I am amazed we managed to swing having them spend the night.  But we did (as my husband is absolutely amazing!) and I am thankful for the time Stacie let us have - and the braids I got to do!  Thanks ladies for spending time with me.
Thanks Mom for making the camp week happen too - that time for the cousins is VERY special  - thank you for recognizing that and making it possible for all of us.  Thanks stacie for coming down and staying as well and diving into daily life all together - always more fun!

Ortho here we come

Here we go - I had no idea that Nick would have such teeth issues - I mean, I know he has crowding, but an under bite too.  Our dentist recommended we start now (the one in VA did too - Chris AND Nick went for a consult) Now its time to do it.

One funny part is THIS TOOTH - It was in Nick mouth dangling for WEEKS.  We had COUNTLESS incentive plans, pull it and get 18 hols of golf, than 17, 16,15, etc... nothing.  WE tried to help him as i can imagine it actually hurt worse, but I think it only made him more nervous -

So while in the Docs chair getting the mold for his space maintainer - she offered to try.  Well in one quick tug - it was OUT and Nick was about in tears - tears of total relief!  It was done and he was headed golfing!
This is something we might see A LOT of in the coming years....  Ah man buddy!

Language of Flowers

I am thankful to be in a book club - because if it were not for deadlines, I may never read - check that, I may start PLENTY - but never finish.

Now I hold myself to book club completion date and am forever thankful for the variety I get to read.  I LOVE getting lost in stories and getting out of myself and day to day life - -

This one - Language of flowers about a foster girl that never seems to find a home until she makes one of her own - finds so much in the language of flowers.
I love symbolism and using that as a reminder in my own life - why not in the garden of flowers at my house.  So here was the glossary of flowers and their meanings.  I was feverishly finishing this while the kids were at the library so I could return it (only 2 days late - but there was a hold on it, so better to pay the fine than return it and not get it back for a few weeks.....)  so here is my record.
Gerber Daisy's yes!

Questioning my recent hydrangea plantings
Lilac's - love!  Lilly of the valley - so true!

Sunflower - see ya--
