And how awesome our Sunday afternoon ski sundown picnic was - what a great group of folks and a great way to bring us together after the season is over.  

Nick and Baseball and something I MUST remember.

Its a Saturday afternoon baseball game at Millennium field.  We are playing a Burlington team (on Thursday we had our first game and lost to a Burlington team......that was Nick Debut as a pitcher and the Teams debut as well)

Well this Saturday it was a great game.  They were going back to back in the runs department.  the boys were playing the failed while Burgling was swinging the bats.  The natives were getting restless and by that I mean, the dug out was not necessarily on their A game.  Kiddos weren't watching, trash all about etc...  I was so thankful when another mom made mention of it and THAN made them all pick it up (secretly I hoped she would enforce this while the majority of the team wan on the field and the trouble makers were on the bench - knowing is Nick was there he would pick it all up even knowing the mess wasn't his.....) sure enough....  kids came in from the field and asked to pick up all the trash - who was the biggest helper - yup, Nick.  Looking back - that wasn't such a bad thing.

 Since we were the home team, we had last ups.  We were down by 4 - Eek......the pitcher started to struggle and we loaded the bases and got 2 runs with only one out.  So who is next to bat with the new pitcher - their closer??!!  Yup, Nick - first pitch comes his way - he doesn't watch it, he HITS it!! hammers it into the outfield - best hit I have seen him make!!  He makes it to 2nd while 2 teammates make it home.  He cannot believe it himself.  I never once reached for my phone (sorry, no photos)  however watching him run from 2nd base as his coach ran to him lifting him in the air, he had the BIGGEST smile on his face!!  That feeling MUST be amazing and I LOVED being there to be a part of it.

That right there was such a reinforcement to me of God's plan - help out - be apart of the team, pick up even if the mess wasn't yours, try hard, practice and be a little fearless - swing that bat!!

To all the coaches that have volunteers to coat these kiddos - please know the impact you have on them.  I never want to forget seeing the coach pick up Nick in shear excitement.

Another mother asked what Nick gets special  tonight for his hit - I told her I couldn't give him anything more special than this moment right here.

Could Whistler be better?!?!

Yup - gotta admit - Monday morning on the mountain was pretty amazing.  Clear skies and I couldn't stop taking pictures and being AMAZED we are here.

The mountain was actually 1/2 closed (the closing day party was Sunday night.  So Whistler was closed but Backcomb was open.  We stood in line for rentals and than in line for the ticket (Meaning there were still TONS of folks wanting to be on the snow!!)

WE met some of the nicest must unique folks - living in the area - trying to get their 'runs' in each day - I never want to forget our 65+ year old friend who was #250 in the contest (out of 3000) to get the most runs - famous quote from him -

 'enough about me - lets talk about you, what do you think of me??'  Said and unstoppable Whislter mountain gem (he fell getting off the chairlift which made us chuckle just a bit - 

WE took 3 lifts to get out of the slushy snow and into the powdery stuff.  No ice!!  Crazy right??

Apparently that isn't stopping these guys - look at those packs.  Chris and I determined that these guys enjoy the hike almost as much as that amazing run down.

We literally just sat down on the mountain, opened up our snack back pack and enjoyed the view!

Since we are used to the 10pm closing time at ski sundown, we missed the 3:35 last chair to the top and had to start our decent.  Legs a bit tired and a few beers so here is the trail Chris choose.  WE will call them Hero Bumps as they are a bit sticky so makes them easier to do.  

I complained a bit, but we both loved it

WE hit the hot tub instead and made an early night - one more day on the slopes tomorrow!

Tuesday morning started with a short workout and this beautifulness

Chris did some work coordination and I had a few R+F things 

It was VERY foggy and MUCH harder to see.  The first run we did a lady fell right in front of us.  WE stopped to help her til ski patrol came.  Definitely a day to watch out a bit.  

Liz connected with us early on saying they were playing hooky from the conference and joining us for the day.  Yeah!!

what a cool group of folks to ski with - one from Zermatt Switzerland - Klaus, Pierre from Paris France and Mike from Stockholm Sweden - makes Canton CT seem pretty small school!

on our final run the fog was SO thick it was as if you were skiing through a dream.  You couldn't see the snow AT ALL - and barely the person in front of you.  We made our way down to all hit the hot tub and have so very colorful conversation - can you believe we all chatted about South Park?!?!?  American Culture prevails!  (even the bad stuff!)

Thank you SO much to Liz for including us on this adventure.  We love that your career takes you to such amazing places and thank you for wanting us to come with you!!  We loved exploring with you and find that we can do it anywhere.  (if only you would let us into your adult science fair!!)  No matter what career you will have - may you always keep the desire to travel (we do!!)  and continue to surround yourself with such dynamic people.  Amazing to see you so good at what YOU have put your mind to.

The mountains literally spill into the ocean - its amazing.

Just in case you though I was fibbing about the 2 seater plane - yup, we went from10 across to just 2 and an awesome female pilot that we could watch the whole way!!

The travel day was LONG and exhausting because it was boring - but we had subway on the plane (impressive learning curve right?) and both of us watched Lion - great movie.  HUGE kudos to my folks for holding down the fort with these boys.  I know their schedules are exhausting and being at someone else house is a challenge too.  They made it seem so doable and we both have HUGE appreciation for this time AWAY together.  Yes, Whistler was amazing and I loved the time with Liz - I also really valued the time with Chris - away from it all, just together.

Holy moly we are headed to Vancouver

Somehow and some way - we made it on ANOTHER plane to Vancouver - this one with LESS connections and an EARLIER arrival time.  I will say, SOMEONE was on our side and our Canadian Air rep was just awesome.  His serious face when I told him we screwed up (I had to call him in out of his break to help us - since there are only 2 flights a day....)  Yup, he rebooked us and didn't charge us a THING!  Phew  We thanked him profusely and sent in reviews to his company on how wonderful he was!!  Now back on track and headed to Canada

It took a LONG l=plane ride to decompress from LIFE - and move to vacation land.  We didn't pack any food and it chaps my ass to BUY food on an airline - I meekly ordered almonds and apples with a glass of wine while I knew Chris was STARVING (I shared) we thankful watched movies - (Me - Fences - Him - some superhero something - yeah to different screens)  We arrived to see Liz waiting for us and off to REAL Food with Doug - a true foodie who has lived in Vancouver for almost 10 years.  Is we kept up with his food itinerary we would have needed 3 extra days and different clothes!!

Liz booked an AirBnB in a apartment spot that had signs EVERYWHERE saying NO airBnB - we tried to stay casual with our 3 suitcases....  Loved waking up to the view Sunday morning.  Vancouver is know for EVERYTHING having glass.  No sure exactly way - maybe that the sun doesn't come out THAT much so when it does - SOAK IT IN!!

We discovered that morning was Canada's largest 10k!!  Literally taking place directly below us!!

You would think Chris and I would just join in, but we opted to make our own way.  He was checking the map and I was recorded out adventure.

The running route around the city was AMAZING.  The green space they keep is REALLY green space - HUGE trail and beautifulness to look at with every turn.

Since naturally I cannot keep up with Chris I added on the tourist card to continue to take breaks along the run

Now lets head down to the market - they literally had EVERYTHING.  Can anyone make dinner with this selection??

It all felt so adult and good to be together

Next we took a boat taxi to a brewery - it was a great way to see more of the city.

This is where we were headed - 140 beers on tap - impossible to choose - the building was amazing and OLD - turn out it also help the Canadian Olympians in 2010 - would imagine there was a bit of beer that at the time too =!)

Most delicious dark beer I have ever had (and you all know how much i LOVE miller lite)  Wish I had a better photo of our server who was ABSOLUTELY darling - smile and all - straight out of the band one direction I swear!

Time to leave Vancouver and head to Whistler - just a quick photo along the drive.
